We are back in Champagne en Vanoise and have had a lot of time on the road to remember the beginnings and the large number of doping controls that we have done in the last 15 years at UIAA. Our journey began in 2005, but we did the first controls under the auspices of the UIAA from 2008. We witnessed the departure of Climbing and Ski Mountaineering, now Olympic sports. Only Ice climbing is left, which is struggling to survive as a sport under the auspices of the UIAA. Ice climbing does not want to become independent but rather to survive in a small community of Ice climbers, probably not larger than 200 active climbers. By sanctioning the Russians, that number is probably even lower. Compared with other sports, the question is how everything works. The answer is quite simple: Rob Adie, the man who is everything, because if we say he is only a sports manager, we will miss many other things he does for Ice climbing. It was disputed, first by the Russians, who rightly wanted insight into everything related to Ice climbing, and later by the Ice Climbing Commission. Now, he is the only guarantor that the Ice climbing competition will occur. We can testify that no one before him was so devoted to Ice climbing. It can be said that he did it as it is a well-developed sport. To ensure there is no confusion, the UIAA (The International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation) is one of the international federations recognized by the International Olympic Committee and, therefore, has certain benefits, as do its members. The existence of at least one sport allows the UIAA to remain in the Olympic family, and Rob’s work is necessary for that sport to survive. We could say that Rob is a persistent connection between the UIAA and the Olympic rings.

Ponovo smo u Champagny en Vanoise. Imali smo dosta vremena u putu da se podsetimo početaka i velikog broja kontrola koje smo uradili za proteklih 15 godina u UIAA. Naš put je počeo 2005 godine, ali prve kontrole pod okriljem UIAA smo uradili tek 2008. godine. Bili smo svedoci odlaska Climbinga i Ski Mountenneringa, koji su sada olimpijski sportovi. Ostao je samo Ice climbing koji se bori da opstane, ne samo kao sport, nego i pod okriljem UIAA. Ledno penajnje ne želi da se osamostali, već više da preživi u maloj komuni lednih penjača, ne većoj od 200 aktivnih penjača. Sankcionisanjem Rusa, taj broj je verovatno i manji. Poredeći se sa drugim sportovima pitanje kako ipak sve funkcioniše. Odgovor je dosta jednostavan, Rob Adie, čovek koji je sve, jer ako bi rekli samo sport menadžer, propustili bi mnogo drugih stvari koje radi za ledno penjanje. U početku osporavan, pre svega od Rusa, koji su s pravom želeli da imaju uvida u sve što je vezano za ledno penjanje, kasnije od komisije za ledno penjanje, da bi sada ostao kao jedini garant da će se takmičenja u lednom penjanju ipak dogoditi. Mi možemo da posvedočimo da se pre njega niko nije bavio tako posvećeno lednim penjanjem. Može se reći kao da je u pitanju neki dobro razvijen sport. I da ne bi bilo zabune, UIAA je jedna od priznatih internacionalnih federacija od strane Međunarodnog olimpijskog komiteta i zbog toga ima određene benefite, a tako i njeni članovi. Postojanje bar jednog sporta omogućava UIAA da bude i dalje u olimpijskoj familiji, a rad Roba je neophodan da bi taj sport opstao. Može se reći da je on jedina veza UIAA i olimpijskih prstenova.
