Ljiljana Marjanovic-Halburd (1964) – Dekanka / Dean

2 Jan , 2018

The curiosity is to know that someone who has graduated at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Serbia can become a dean at the faculty in England, since she probably would not have become in Belgrade, of course not because she is unqualified, but just the other way around. I do not even think what Likica would do in Belgrade today in this absurdity. Probably like everyone would try to put an end to the end and try to show that she better understand the Mechanical Engineering of wall painters and untrained masters. Thus, she has to bother in England, she has her own home, she drives a good car and, of course, she is teaching and managing the whole faculty system. It is obviously she is so good, that after only a year at one faculty, she moves to the position of Dean on the other. Our acquaintance began with the re-birth of democracy in Serbia, when we had both great expectations, and continued to socialize at least once a year by following the destruction of everything that was good for these almost thirty years. We look similarly to the Brits, probably because we both loved Borislav Pekić who satirically described them, and later became one of the founders of the Democratic Party. Since I know how many will react, I believe that Likica, as well as I share Pekic’s thought: “It is necessary to love the land of your children, and not of your grandfathers. Because honour will not depend on where we come from, but where we go.”
