Noli me tangere

Jadranka Kuljanin Jakovljević (1962 -2020) Borina nevesta / Boro’s bride

Danas sam bio na Jadrankinoj sahrani.Bilo je tužno, jer puno ljudi nije moglo da dođe, uključujući njenog oca i porodicu. Kako nikada ne želim da pričam o upokojenom, a da ne kažem ko je zapravo bio,  prvo što želim da kažem da je Jadranka bila hemičar i profesor. Radila je u našoj jednoj preostaloj istraživačkoj ustanovi „Vinča“ kao naučnik, a predavala je hemiju na Medicinskom fakultetu u Foči, Univerzitet Istočno Sarajevo. Imao sam priliku da vidim neke njene knjige i prvi utisak je bio da ne znam mnogo, uprkos tome što sam bio dobar na Medicinskom fakultetu.

Listajući našao sam jednostavno pitanje: U kome od ovih jedinjenja kiseonik ima oksidacioni broj + 2?

1) Na2O2        2) BaO2          3) F2O             4) N2O            5) CH3CHO

Bilo je smešno jer samo pre tri dana pokušao da Jadranki objasnim toksičnost kiseonika pre nego što sam joj ga uključio. Zapravo, to je bilo poslednje dobro što sam uradio. Generalno, imali smo sreću da koristimo svu modernu medicinu protiv njene bolesti. Ipak, karcinom je tako opaka bolest da je do danas od početka ove godine umrlo 2.130.857 ljudi, a dok nisam završio ovaj tekst, umreće još 20 osoba.

Verujem u trenutak „Noli me tangere“ kada je duh još uvek oko nas, ali ne želi da ga uznemiravamo, kao što Isus nije dozvolio Mariji Magdaleni da ga dodirne. Na kraju sam našao jedno Jadrankino predavanje gde je rekla: „Pošto se molekuli nalaze u osnovi materije, a materija je jedan od vidova postojanja celog svemira, hemija je jedna od „kosmičkih nauka.“ Nadam se da će se Jadrankini molekul sresti sa molekulima moje majke, oca, bake i svih dragih ljudi koji su sada deo svemira.

Today, I was at funeral of Jadranka Kuljanin Jakovljevic, It was sad, because a lot of people could not come, including her father and family. Since I don’t like to speak about the deceased without explanation, I could say that she was chemist and teacher. She was working in our remaining research institution Vinča as scientists, and she lectured chemistry in Medical Faculty at Foča, University of East Sarajevo. 

I had a chance to see some of her books and the first impression that I don’t understand much, in spite, I was good at the Medical Faculty. One easy question:

In which of these compounds does oxygen have an oxidation number+2?

1)Na2O2 2) BaO2 3) F2O 4) N2O 5) CH3CHO (correct answer is 2))

It was funny that just three days ago, I tried to explain more about oxygen toxicity before I administrated her oxygen therapy. Actually, that was the last good thing I did for her. In general, we had lucky to use all modern medicine against her disease. Still, Carcinoma is such a vicious disease that until today from the beginning of this year, 2.130.857 people died, and until I finished this text, 20 more will die. 

I believe in “Noli me tangere” moment when the spirit is still around us, but don’t want to disturb, like Jesus didn’t allow Mary Magdalene to touch him. In the end, I have found one lecture of Jadranka where she said: “Since the molecule is at the base of matter, and the matter is one of the modes of existence of the entire universe, chemistry is one of the cosmic sciences.” I hope that Jadranka’s molecule will meet molecules of my mother, father, grandmother, and all dear people who are now part of the universe.
